From Concept to Commercial Reality
This program isn't just another energy project. It moves SMRs from pilot concepts to full-scale commercial nuclear generation, demonstrating that advanced nuclear is commercially viable, investable, and scalable, and establishing a repeatable model for SMR deployment nationwide.
A New Era for U.S. Energy Independence
In September 2025, a historic partnership was formed between the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and ENTRA1 Energy, launching the largest small modular reactor (SMR) deployment program in U.S. history. This initiative will bring up to 6 gigawatts (GW) of new, clean nuclear capacity online, powered by NuScale’s proven SMR technology.
This is a landmark collaborative program between the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and ENTRA1 Energy to develop and deploy up to 6 gigawatts of new nuclear power using NuScale Power's small modular reactor (SMR) technology. It is the largest SMR deployment program in U.S. history and will provide clean, reliable energy across TVA's seven-state service area.
What is the 6 GW SMR deployment program?
Frequently Asked Questions
Enhanced Safety: They feature advanced, passive safety systems that rely on natural forces like gravity and convection to cool the reactor, even without operator action or external power
Scalability: The modular design allows plants to add more reactor units as energy demand grows.
Reliability: Like traditional nuclear power, SMRs provide a consistent, 24/7 source of baseload power that is not dependent on weather conditions.
Clean Energy: SMRs generate electricity without producing greenhouse gas emissions.

What is the economic impact of this initiative?
The primary goal is to meet the growing demand for electricity driven by energy-intensive sectors like AI-powered data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, and other advanced industries. The program aims to ensure long-term energy security for the region with a reliable, carbon-free power source, supporting both economic growth and environmental goals.
What is the main goal of the program?
ENTRA1 Energy is an American company that will develop, finance, own, and manage the power plants. As NuScale's strategic partner, ENTRA1 will oversee the deployment of the SMR technology within the power plants and sell the generated electricity to TVA through future power purchase agreements.
What is ENTRA1 Energy's role?
TVA is the nation's largest public power provider and will be the end-user of the electricity generated. As a leader in pursuing new nuclear technologies, TVA is leveraging this partnership to secure a clean and reliable power supply to serve more than 10 million people and support the region's economic development.
What is the role of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in this partnership?
NuScale Power is the provider of the advanced small modular reactor (SMR) technology for the program. NuScale's SMR is the first and only one of its kind to be certified by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), making it a proven and ready-to-deploy solution for clean energy generation. NuScale is currently in the manufacturing phase, with 12 modules already in production, marking a significant milestone toward full deployment.
What is NuScale Power's contribution?
SMRs are a new class of nuclear reactors that are much smaller than traditional ones. Their components can be fabricated in a factory and transported to a site for assembly, which makes them more efficient and cost-effective to build. Their modular design allows for scalability, meaning plants can be sized to meet specific energy needs.
What are small modular reactors (SMRs)?
SMRs offer several key advantages:
What are the benefits of using SMR technology?
By deploying advanced nuclear technology, this program will add a significant amount of carbon-free electricity to the grid. This helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels, lowers overall emissions, and supports a cleaner energy future while providing the reliable power needed for modern life.
How does this program impact the environment?
This program strengthens U.S. energy security by increasing the supply of domestically produced, reliable baseload power. By investing in American-made nuclear technology, it reduces dependence on foreign energy sources and ensures the nation has the power it needs to support critical infrastructure and industries.
How does this program support U.S. energy security?
The program is a major driver of economic growth. It will create jobs, attract investment to the Tennessee Valley region, and provide the abundant, affordable energy needed to power the industries of the future, including advanced manufacturing and technology sectors. This helps maintain America's competitive edge in the global economy.

Each plant will be powered by 12 NuScale Power Modules™, the only SMR approved by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Proven Technology
6 GW would provide enough energy to power the equivalent of approximately 4.5 million homes or 60 new data centers.
Meeting Demand
The 6 GW SMR deployment program is a catalyst for economic growth and industrial strength. By revitalizing the U.S. nuclear supply chain, this initiative will:
Building America’s Clean Energy Economy
“Energy security is national security—and dependable electricity is the lifeblood of America’s future. It powers our AI data centers, fuels advanced manufacturing, and drives the critical industries that keep our nation strong. Without abundant, affordable baseload power, innovation stalls and supply chains break.”
Chief Projects Officer, ENTRA1 Energy
The 6 GW SMR deployment program is driven by the collaboration of three industry leaders: ENTRA1 Energy, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and NuScale Power. Together, these organizations bring expertise in energy production, infrastructure development, and advanced nuclear technology.
